Dear Reader,
Started on Independence Day, the Soul of America Calendar
is my way of remembering some of our important historical figures.
I'm optimistic and busy. I get up each morning, go outside, and
raise the flag. Made by the Valley Forge Flag Company, the flag is
huge, 12' long and 8' wide. It flies on a 45' tall flagpole. On the way
into the house, I adjust the Betsy Ross flag at the door. I tell my
wonderful wife, “Another exciting day!” Then I look at the news and
think, “No, this can't be happening. Who are these people?” For years,
I've watched and read media that's turned into propaganda. Trusting Fox
News, NewsMaxTV, and WMAL FM radio now makes sense.
In the middle of the Corona Virus Pandemic and just when I thought
things couldn't get any worse, George Floyd was murdered. The May 25,
2020 chokehold death of George Floyd, a 46 year old black man who died
minutes after his arrest by four white policemen on a street in
Minneapolis, Minnesota sparked protests in major cities throughout the
U.S.
Initially, the protestors focused on police brutaliy, racial
inequality, and social justice.
It didn't take long for the protestors to be invaded by anti-U.S.
militants who loot, burn, tear down historical statues, and fight
against police on duty to maintain law and order. The agenda has now
expanded to include historical censorship and revision. These left wing
extremists are violent and dangerous. They are vandalizing and
destroying America's historical symbols, artifacts. landmark
architecture, statues, and flags. The threat to our Bill of Rights and
the U.S. Constitution is real.
To preserve why we're proud of our county, I compiled this
calendar. As you flip through the pages, you'll find reminders of what
a big country we are, founded and led by big ideas. Tell yourself,
“Another exciting day.” Here's to the future!
Yours truly, Thomas Graham Lee Librarian: retired. Age 81
Letter to Readers, continued
Here we are, in January, 2021. President Trump's American
Renaissance is over. Trump's superb achievements will, for the
most part, be swept aside by the incoming administration.
Low taxes, higher employment for Black Americans, Hispanic Anericans,
and women, less regulations, a bright environment for small businesses,
progress on halting illegal immigration at the southern border between
the U.S. and Mexico, no wars, peace agreements in the Mideast, energy
indpendence for the first time in the U.S', and the negotiations with
pharmacies to produce vaccines at “warp speed” to protect
against the deadly corona virus during the pandemic which put the
world into lockdown. All of Trump's brilliant work was
accomplished in only 4 years when, on any given day, Trump was
needlessly under attack by Left politicians and a corrupt
media.
The November-2020 Presidential election was a nightmare, filled with
irregularities and excuses that would make even Vladimir Putin think
twice. Joseph Biden won. Freedom of speech, the
Constitution, and the Bill of Rights are in jeopardy.
The U.S. is facing the lunacy of isms. Biden and his administration are
bringing George Orwell's ”1984” into the lives of Americans. Get
ready for authoritarianism, fascism, socialism, and totalitarianism.
I'm a retired librarian and journalist. I'm surprised that not
just one, but both, of my professions are in the crosshair assaults on
freedom of speech, the constitution, and balanced truthful news
reporting.
Knowing history changes your perspective. The people on these
pages are worth knowing. They're all part of the Soul of America.
Just a few of the
people that made the United States of America
the greatest country
in the world.
